GRA PETITION FOR 20MPH SPEED ZONE IN GALMPTON

Galmpton Residents Association is concerned by the danger due to traffic throughout the village and we are petitioning for the whole village to be made a 20mph zone.

The new 20mph solar powered speed check signs are being used very effectively in the South Hams and more recently in Torbay, & appear to require little in the way of  lighting , road signs, or speed ramps, which have ruined the appearance of many villages in the past.

We understand that it is not possible to build footpaths on several of the roads that are used by pedestrians to get to the senior and junior schools.  Our Community Policeman PC 4383 Glenn Chambers has stated that the danger arises from people driving too fast for the conditions, rather than necessarily breaking the current 30mph speed limit.

We hope that when the speed limit is decreased more parents will be willing to walk their children to the schools, which will help to decrease the current traffic chaos.

Also, with the prospect of people taking short cuts and speeding through the village to get to the new South Devon College we feel this speed restriction is vital and should be enforced as a matter of urgency!
